"Do not leave your hard catch to the sharks" She "Do not leave your hard catch to the sharks" She was scared of sharks. Spearfishing that day, she made a fine catch, though a shark just popped out of nowhere and out of all the fish in the ocean, he wanted to get that easy catch, that's already caught. She had two options. Give up to her fear of Sharks and let go of her catch or hold on and just pull. The downside, the more ahe pulles, the more the shark got closer to her. Finally, she secured her catch and the shark went away I am totally inspired by this story I just learnt about in a documentary "Fishpeople Lives Transformed by the Sea" ... It got me thinking of how many times I might have let go of things that I have already caught with the labor of my hands, feet, brain, heart and energy because I was afraid of facing the sharks, or even thinking that "the sharks" must get it anyway. But not today Sharks, I am pulling my catch all the way and you'd better not to turn that into a fist fight. #StandYourGround #ThisIsMine #NotToday #PullWithFear
If you want to measure the degree by which you can If you want to measure the degree by which you can reach effective leadership positions, test your limits to how far and how often you go through and handle conflicts effectively. Conflicts are one of the inevitable realities of our life, and we can choose to create our own bubble and let people step over us however they want or we can create strong boundaries and move on and/or move into RAGE once these bou boundaries are crossed. Many "agreeable" people that I get to meet and coach are struggling with the need of finding the balance between asserting themselves into the world and not settling down for less than what's best and fair for them and taking other people's needs, emotions and wanta into consideration. If you self identify as a "disagreeable" person, you don't need to worry about this for the most part as disagreeable people have a "myself first" attitude all the time. I was telling a friend of how pissed off I was as a result of an i teraction today and their response was just: You did what is right? Yes, then "fuck them." Finding the fine balance and adjusting our interactions is essential for a balanced exchanges with our surrounding. Our committment should be to this balance not to each individual interaction, if someone is "creating noise" beyond what the practical situation calls for, then I will lend you myself to share the f word.
Imagine having the expectation and responsibility Imagine having the expectation and responsibility of being at your Sharp/Active/Assertive/Energetic state most of the time? It comes naturally to some people some of the time - when there is a practical need for it (e.g. hosting an event or workshop, leading a meeting, closing a sale). But being expected to be at your "Alpha" state all the time could be very daunting and gets many people to turn into "A**holes" as they program themselves to exaggerate everything all the time. That's why it's best to store your "peak emotional state" energy and anchor yourself into it whenever the situation calls for it. What ideas, thoughts and techniques are you currently relying on to manage your emotional state and reach your peak moment whenever the situation calls for it?
How far are you willing to take this? Are you read How far are you willing to take this? Are you ready to take it all the way? I definitely am. Persistence and an attitude of "taking it all the way, going the extra mile" is probably one of the most underrated and overlooked qualities as society still demands of people to "show off" their successes while stories of persistence and extreme measures - during the phases in which results are not very obvious - tend to inspire more of "smearing" other than genuine encouragement and grounded belief. "I divorced my husband just before his business really launched" "I sold my partner out when things slowed down, I tanked and they launched" "she seemed too passionate and illogical, there were no way what she intended coud come into fruition, I had to pull the plug, she still went ahead with her vision and made it work, I do not know how" These are som of the statements you are less likely to hear though you'd be surprised of how frequently these stories are repeated compared of - you know what stories. If you find within yourself the attitude of "walking the extra mile", I heartfully salute you. If you are wondering whether to take this project, business or sale to an extra mile or remain where you are, you know what I would advise. P.S. I recorded this video message three times for 2 days, everytime the recording is lost due to battery or network. I had to demonstrate my own persistence in composing and posting the message again, right from the edge!
The reality of the world is, no matter how careful The reality of the world is, no matter how careful and sophisticated your dealings are, unless you figure out someway to forgive and let go, you will end up living in hell. And I am talking about "practical" matters before personal ones. An old and wise, 70-year old friend of mine used to answer: "you never know, you never know" when I needed to pick their brains on the potential of a new partnership, a new hire or a resolution to a conflict. "People are fragile, it's not even logical, they could be your friend one day and your foe another and vice-versa". And it is true, as much as we go through things and phases, people also go through the same. We can never have and should expect many of other people's actions to go outside our expectations and realm of control. Sometimes there won't be a remedy to a situation except letting it go, with our best trial on forgiveness, open arms for hugs and a truthful smile of appreciation. The older we get we learn that "there are no justified resentment" and "resentment is for losers". We would be better pursuing a bigger action other than reflecting on a deep violation and it's our duty to upgrade our knowledge and downgrade our expectations for the following round of connection. "Engaged but not attached" is the ideal mindset for us to interact with the world, as we fully engage in the present moment while releasing attachment to outcome and to the people we are expecting or hoping to do it with. Every night you breath out the toxic resentments of the day and every morning you let the sunshine in as if it's your first day ever and as if nothing happend yesterday. What's you story wih resentment and letting go? And what are the rituals you have internalized to maintain that?
"Do Not go gentle into this good night... Rage .. "Do Not go gentle into this good night... Rage ... Rage, against the dying of the light..." Rage is often viewed as undesirable though in certain situations when we are being manipulated into accepting certain soon-to-be-realities as they are staged and hinted at and not rolled out immediately, we surrender into a form of slow death... I have learnt to rely on the rule of three once someone is manipulating my boundaries by implicitly changing the terms of an agreement, a partnership, a relationship or even a service. A certain actions is done once, you take a mental note but no action still, it happens a second time, you zero in, detect and analyze, it is done a third time and everyone have to get ready for a serious conversation. Are you trying to say xyz? You do not like the direction this project is taking? Are we talking about the term #12 in our contract here? If we accept situations once they are staged into existence, we will eventually become "losers" in all fronts. It takes courage to go through a business pivot, a negotiation, even honest conversations leading to termination or breakup. This courage also needs to be exercised to allow our natural expression of rage... I am not sure about you, but If I have to choose between being a "pathetic loser" or being "In Rage" once my boundaries are crossed. I choose the latter. "Do not go gentle into this good night... Rage ... Rage ... against the dying of the light..."
"The greatest negotiating position is being able t "The greatest negotiating position is being able to walk away and really mean it" Whether you are haggling in the streets of Cairo or Istanbul, negotiate a partnership deal or a venture capital round, you have to be ready to walk away if your standards are not being meant. Egotistical and Emotional Attachment often gets on the way of letting go of something we envisioned working within a certain setup or with specific individuals. Life often surprises us with what we might get once we let go of something that's not working. "I really wish for this to work, but if xyz is not meant I will have to walk away" Having the power to walk away requires building a network of connections with access to alternatives and having the knowledge and awareness of the value of what we bring to the table. This "Walking Away Power" also reflects in our partnerships and relationships as we become only involved in exchanges we mentally and emotionally cherish and value and are more likely to contribute more and grow more. Life decisions should be strategized and reflected upon, though, as a general rule, always give yourself the option to walk away when it doesn't work for you. Do you have an experience of walking away from something? Was it the right or wrong decision for you? Have you been rewarded with something more fitting yet?
Self Acceptance vs. Self Improvement "That was te Self Acceptance vs. Self Improvement "That was terrible" "I do not believe you still haven't published that book, launched this App or mastered this skill" I am one of these people who are almost obsessed with self improvement, it took quite sometime to understand and integrate an equivelent level of self acceptance. I talk to people who are struggling with finding the balance between both for themselves and often for their teams and companies. Growth an improvement is always positive, if you lack the drive to improve, you'll stagnate and die but this is not the risk for majority of people in the workplace especially as entrepreneurs and managers who are taking the burden - and often guilt - of responsibility over others. "Despite that I wish that I would have acted differently, I continue to love, honor and accept myself" This is an example of a healthy statement the combines absolute self acceptance - you did not know better, was out of options - and acknowledgement for the need and desire to improve. Sully is the name of the pilot who landed on the Hudson River, after a miraculous landing where no one was hut, he was chased with blames for taking an exaggerated and unnecessary action. Computer simulations were built to probe that and pilots had been trained on performing how a different decision was the "professional standard" for a pilot at his level of experience. It took self acceptance first, then a desire to respond and find out the truth to prove otherwise. I hope the situation you are facing is not as intense as that of saving the lives of 155 people, but remember that the exercise of "letting go" of the image of perfection and righteousness is what allows you to improve. Many bosses, investors and even parents lack the quality to balance these qualities, they end up interfacing with failures as bullies, especially if they are given the opportunity to exploit feeling of guilt. Courage and self acceptance are the foundation for self improvement, mature people who understand and inspire that in themselves and others are the only leaders worth following.
*Connections solve problems* Whatever the problem *Connections solve problems* Whatever the problem that you are thinking about now, someone who could be very close to you might have solution to it. Being genuinely interested in who people are and listening to what they are passionate about and what they have to offer will lead you to immediate solutions to your problems. Also, being out there communicating your passion and gifts will allow you to offer your talent where it's most needed. The skill of building a network of relationships that supports your journey is essential and it all starts by letting go of expectations and participating in human-to-human interactions that could lead to positive connections.
